The next step after choosing a 3D printer is deciding which filament to use – and if you’re doing it for the first time, it can be quite overwhelming! With so many options to choose from, identifying the ideal filament can be a tricky process.
That’s why Phaser FPV has put together a brief rundown of what each type of filament consists of, and which type of 3D printing project each one is suited to.
For those who are looking to add an air of elegance to their 3D-printed objects, silk filament is definitely the way to go. Obviously it’s not actually silk; but rather a shiny material that produces a glossy finish!
From slightly translucent visuals to chrome metallic finishes, the end product will vary from brand to brand. However, all silk filaments share a few common attributes…
First of all, silk 3D printing filament solidifies into a strong yet flexible object once it cools. It works best with slightly elevated printing temperatures, for increased durability and longevity.
You’ll also find there’s no need to paint your finished object – your 3D print will most likely already have a very aesthetically pleasing finish, often resembling metal rather than plastic.
You could argue that painting on silk filament prints is like adding cola to a fancy scotch!
If you’re interested in our collection of silk 3D printing filaments, we encourage you to also check out our wide range of ABS filaments, PLA filaments, SLA resin and other 3D printing supplies.
