This is a brand new filament to hit our store in August 2022! Phaser 3D Colour Gradient Silk is similar to rainbow filaments where a solid colour changes back and forth, but in this case, we only change between two colours. There are also no hard colour changes like most other rainbow filaments - instead, the colour is faded between the changes so you have a nice gradient, hence the name.
NOTE: This filament is NOT a split/co-extrusion like our Phaser3D Dual Colour.
Silk PLAs normally produce impressive prints that are shiny and seemingly a bit translucent, giving them both the feel and look of being covered in silk. With this kind of filament, there’s no need to paint such prints, as their natural appearance is quite dazzling.
Typically, “silk” filaments are enhanced PLA filaments, owing to their glossy result to various additives. As such, they tend to show most of the same pros and cons of PLA filament. In the case where silk filaments have a different base, these would be expected to have similar properties to the base material. For this article, we’ll focus mostly on PLA-based silk filaments.
Please remember that print temperatures and speeds are a guideline and exact settings will be different for every machine. We recommend that you print a temperature tower and stringing tests to find the best settings for you.
